What is the best dirt-cheap American lager?

In: FAQ

You know all the ones you see on the very last shelf, next to the Mad Dog 20/20…The usual suspects are Milwaukee’s Best, Natural Light, Keystone, Pabst, Lone Star (if you’re in TX), etc.

I am looking for a true beer aficionado to tell me what is the best of the dirt-cheap beers.

It’s not dirt-cheap, but I like Yeungling. It’s only available in the Northeast though. It’s made in Pottsville, PA.

Pabst, but it’s a little more expensive than the others. Miller High Life is okay too.

American lagers (talking about macro-brews here) are all crap. Any true aficionado knows that they are watery, flavorless, have no hop taste or aroma to speak of, and basically a disgrace to beer.

The only macro American lagers that are halfway decent are Yuengling and Sam Adams Boston Lager. Sam Adams has a lot of hop taste and Yuengling is more like a traditional American lager except it has more flavor and a little more body.

If you want a really good beer, I’d still stick with an import.

I live in Texas, so I’d have to say Lone Star. Other than that, Pabst is good for being so cheap. Milwaukee’s Best is awful, same with Natty Lite. Keystone tastes like water, very easy to drink, not really tasty or anything though.

Lone Star. I just bought an 18 pack for $11.69. Yeah, there are many better beers out there, but for the price you can’t go wrong. It is my cheap beer choice. I love the higher priced (and higher quality) beers too. But some times it is fun to go cheap.

I think it has to be Pabst, you’re in pretty good hands with most cheap beers as long as you stay away from the malt liquor. Also, try some Abita Purple Haze sometime…………..it’s not too much.
