Wee problem with beer tester’s ‘dream job’

A MAN who was employed by Cascade Brewery to test beer samples has been sacked for urinating against a wall of its historic South Hobart building.

After clocking up 31 years of service for Cascade, Ricky Oxley had worked his way to a position many would consider a dream job.

His duties included collecting and testing beer samples and doing seal checks on bottles.

That ended in September 2009 when Mr Oxley “broke the seal” on an external wall of the brewery.

He was called into a meeting with the brewery’s engineering manager and a colleague, who said they witnessed the incident, and he was sacked the following day.

Mr Oxley appealed against the ruling to Fair Work Australia, claiming unfair dismissal, but his appeal was rejected earlier this month at a tribunal hearing in Canberra.

The sacking capped a lengthy list of alleged workplace breaches that Mr Oxley accrued over his three decades working for Cascade, which was submitted to the tribunal.
