Squamish’s Howe Sound Brewing has announced the second beer in its “Ales for Change” series and will contribute a portion of the beer’s sales profit to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS–BC) for marine and wilderness conservation in B.C. “We are thrilled about this series of beers ‘Ales for Change’, as it is a way of giving to environmental and community endeavours creating positive change, while focusing on relevant local and environmental issues,” said Leslie Fenn, co-owner of Howe Sound Brewing.

The first fundraising beer “Boomer’s Canadian Red Ale” was launched in November 2010. Andrew “Boomer” Eykelenboom was a Canadian Armed Forces medic killed in Afghanistan in 2006. The beer was named in his honour and a portion of its sales went to the legacy fund in his name.

Through the partnering with CPAWS-BC, “Rockfish Red Ale” will help support marine conservation in Howe Sound and around B.C.

“We never thought we’d be in the beer business,” said Chloe O’Loughlin, CPAWS-BC executive director. “Our organization is in the business of protecting B.C.’s wilderness and oceans.”

Howe Sound Brewing is giving $1 from each bottle sold to CPAWS-BC. That money will help B.C.’s nature, including rockfish and numerous other marine species that depend on healthy oceans and intact underwater habitats.
