Free beer for flood volunteers

A HARD earned thirst needs a big cold beer – and Queensland’s SES and Rural Fire Brigade volunteers have certainly been working hard throughout Queensland’s flood crisis.

Carlton United Breweries have announced they will deliver 4000 cartons of their Great Northern Beer to SES workers and rural firefighters involved in the emergency response to the disaster.

Both organisations have played a major role during the past month as devastating floods swept through central and southern Queensland and many volunteers have been working non-stop since Christmas.

CUB Queensland General Manager Cameron Levick said giving out free beer to the 400 SES and rural fire groups involved in the crisis was a small gesture of thanks compared to the efforts of volunteers.

“Queensland’s recovery is going to be a long and arduous process and we need the SES and Rural Fire Service to know Queenslanders appreciate everything they are currently doing and will have to do in the days, weeks and months ahead,” he said.

Emergency Management Queensland Regional Director for Brisbane Shane Wood said the volunteers would greatly appreciate the free cartons.

“They don’t do this work to get a slap on the back but to know people appreciate their efforts means a lot.”
