Swirling wine glasses will replace swinging bats at Municipal Stadium on Thursday, during the Hagerstown Suns sixth annual Beer and Wine Tasting Festival.

Attendees can sample from more than 75 types of beer and wine.

“We have a lot of local breweries around here,” said Reed Hunley, Suns director of entertainment.

Local brewers include Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, Md., and Hook & Ladder Brewing Co., based in Montgomery County, Md.

For $22 ($25 at the gate), imbibers will receive tickets for 10 5-ounce samples and gain access to a post-tasting concert of dueling pianos – billed as Dueling Pianos Night Out.

Philadelphia-based piano players Anthony Decarolis and Joe Marchetti – aka Tony T and Wildman Joe – will draw from a set list that includes funk, rock and Sinatra covers, according to the duo’s website.

While the dueling pianists have performed at the Suns stadium before, Hunley said the piano concert was a new addition to the event, which he hoped would translate into more attendees.

Last year’s tasting drew 500 people.

Hunley said the aim of the tasting is to draw attention to the stadium – the reason the event is being held on a nongame night. The Suns will be in Asheville, N.C., playing the third in a four-game series against the Tourists.

“Anything to get people at the ballpark,” Hunley said.
