Why are a large number of lager companies in the UK starting to make 4% lager! Who on earth wants to drink it?

I understand the points made. What I mean is Why are they making it? And what has started it all off?
Ok, to clarify – Real UK Stella Artois is 5.2%, Becks is 5%, Grolsch is 5%. Why are they making weaker versions!!!

I do. Stronger beers mean you drink less. Why pay £2 + for dish water?

There is a market for everything. Maybe not YOU, but someone will like it.

I drink only stout. Ale and lager to me are watery, but some people can’t handle stout.

Here in Ireland nearly all beers are 4% and always have been, I didn’t know it could be any lighter

Don’t listen to Just Dave; he’s an idiot. A stout IS an ale. To answer your question, some people just like the taste of beer but don’t want to get drunk drinking it.
