They are different beers. The main brand Dos Equis XX Special Lager is a 4.45% abv pale lager sold in green bottles. Dos Equis XX Amber is a 4.7% Vienna-style amber lager sold in brown bottles.
They are both lagers. The Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma Brewery uses the same process and ingredients for all of their year round beers except the new Bohemia Weizen. Currently the difference between their light and “dark” or in this case amber beers is that they use caramel coloring in the darker beers.
