Is Erdinger Beer an ale or lager? How can I tell the difference?

Can anyone lead me to more information of Erdinger Beer other than the company’s website and wikipedia? I am doing a marketing project on Erdinger and I have difficulty finding research material.

The difference between ale and lager lies in the fermentation process. Ales are top-fermented while lagers are bottom-fermented.

Erdinger is a brewery that offers nine different kinds of beer, but they’re all wheat-beers.
The most popular ist the Erdinger Weißbier kristallklar.
Weißbier is the term used in Bavaria for Weizenbier (wheat beer). As wheat-beer is top-fermented it classifies as an ale.
So all Erdinger beers are ales.

In Germany the Erdinger brewery uses former German football hero Franz Beckenbauer for their marketing campaign.
