Can you recommend a great import lager that I might not have tried?

I’ve tried: Heineken, Grolsch, Sam Adams, and others, but they don’t come to mind.

Anchor Steam, if you can get hold of it. It’s a San Francisco invention but I’ve got addicted to it while I’ve been here. I highly recommend trying it.

Otherwise Becks is always reliable.

my husband is a beer man and is thrilled that we are in germany right now! there must be a brewery in almost every town here (i think it’s some ridiculus number like over 600 in the country), but available in the states – modelo is a good mexican beer, he really likes asahi (usually you can find it in japanese resturants, but not at the grocery store), our local beer here is called brauhaus and it’s pretty good, but i’m a stout drinker myself so they all taste pretty much like bud to me. if you have a BJ’s or a Rock Bottom near you, they have some really good beers and you can get sampler’s at both places.

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge that I respect everyone’s opinion and tastes.

Secondly, I would like to say that most of the beers listed aren’t appealing to my tastes, or for that matter, most beer connaisures tastes…. I don’t care for Fosters, Tiger, Kingfisher, or Heinekin.

I agree that Guinness is a fine beer, one of my personal favorites. Sam Adams is not an import, but a nice brew, and I like Negra Modelo, a dark alternative to Modelo Especial.

The question is, did you mean lager specifically, ie bottom fermented brew, or light beers in general, a common misnomer.

Also, Pilsner is a type of lager, which would include Pilsner Urquel, Czechvar (Budvar if not in America), and any of the numerous German-type pils. Konig is a popular German pilsner sold widely in America. My personal favorite Germans come from Munich, and include Augustiner, but others are Spaten, Hoffbrau, Hacker-Schorr, Paulaner-Munich, and others. Helles type pilsners are just fantastic.

You will have to look in a well stocked liquor store, though… but if you’ve tried alot of beers, you should be checking out liquor stores anyway.

And don’t write of Ameican craft brew, by far some of the best stuff on the planet. Three Floyds, Flying Dog, and the aforementioned Anchor Steam all are considered fine brews. Sierra Navada make a variety of flavorful brews you should definately not miss, I’ve had their Stout, Porter, and Pale Ale, all fine brews.
